Added strap that keeps your houdini horse from pulling the halter off over the ears. Simply slip it through the loop on the crown strap of the GG halter. Ensure the strap is snug (slightly looser than a cribbing strap) and voila your houdini has been thwarted!

For a non-GG halter you can make a loop with twine, string, hook 'n' loop (read, "velcro"), or zip ties and use that to connect the neck strap and crownpiece.

Is your horse wearing the neck strap and still pulling the whole kit off his head? Skip ahead to the "Extra Security" segment of our tutorial video for advanced houdini horses. It starts around the 5:50 mark.

    FAQs

    Horse Still Escaping?

Is your horse still wriggling out of his halter and muzzle, even with a neck strap? Don't just pull everything tighter; sometimes, that just makes it easier for a horse to escape.

The "Extra Security" segment of our tutorial video illustrates how to anchor the neck strap to your horse's halter, and where to position it, so that your horse cannot get the rig over his head. This segment starts at right around the 5:50 mark of the video.

We are very familiar with houdini horses and other escape artists. We have an entire page dedicated to keeping horses in muzzles and halters.

    Add a Second Throat Latch

If you have an escape-prone horse, who finds new ways to wriggle out of their muzzle or halter, we have solutions!

If you've tried the neck collar technique, and your horse is still getting loose, we have developed a DIY strategy for adding a second throat latch strap.

If you have a query that isn't answered by the full tutorial video, feel free to ask us! Just send an email to support@gg-equine.com.

Please send a photo of your horse wearing their full muzzle and halter setup. The photo should be taken directly from the side with your horse's head up. That will give our customer service team a chance to assess the situation and offer better help.

    it works

My horse was rubbing her muzzle (with the GG halter) off over her head. Faster every day. The strap put an end to that. The muzzle went from useless to back to being a big part of her diet regime. Recommended. It does need to be pretty tight (not choking tight but tighter than a bridle throatlatch) for it to be effective.

Kay, thanks so much for working with your horse to find the adjustments that work best for her. Some horses need the extra security of the neck collar to keep from wriggling out of it. That's one reason we keep working to develop things like the neck collar, the houdini corner straps, and are even now working on a supplementary throatlatch. If you or your horse ever have any questions or just want a check of the fit, we are always happy to help you make adjustments. Feel free to send a photo - directly from the side and with her head up - of how she normally wears her muzzle and halter to support@gg-equine.com and we can make suggestions!

    Draft size grazing muzzles

Wish you made draft size/ warmblood grazing muzzles with halters that fit!!!!

Promise you we're working on it, Lynne! Research and development is slow and costly, but we want to not only get it done, but also to get it right. Keep watching this space! Houdini helper neck strap

I have all the GG Equine recommended products for Houdini horses. I happen to have two, a pony and a Hanoverian. Before GG Equine, I could not keep a muzzle on these two animals. Now, with all the houdini accessories from GG Equine, the muzzles stay on, an enormous relief. Love all their products!

Jill, since day one, we have been working on our customers' number one issue: that a one-size-fits-most product fits most, not all. That's why we've spent all the intervening years developing our own uniquely-customizable halter, our houdini corner straps, the neck collar, and other products are always in process. Thank you for being willing to try and trust your pony and Hanoverian's turnout time to the products we've made to help them. We hope to serve you for years to come!

    Hooray! Problem solved!!

This neck strap is perfect. We have a horse that would take his muzzle off on the water tub by slipping the halter (Greenguard brand and cinched at throatlatch) over his ear.
This strap fixed the problem immediately :-)
We adjusted it exactly as shown in the video.
    Thank you Greenguard!

Bobbie, thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review. We're thrilled to hear the neck strap is keeping your guy from using the water tub to wriggle out of the halter. Horses are crafty and wily creatures, and we do our best to safely anticipate and thwart their schemes! Please stay in touch and let us know if y'all run into any other issues.

    Quality! Effective! Durable!

Have had one GG muzzle + halter for 18mos, used almost daily. Can’t believe how long this product has lasted. Needed a few connection straps along the way, bought them from Amazon and had them within 48hrs. My Houdini horse learned how to remove the halter at some point; I went to the GG website to call for help and found a product solution before I had to ask!

I have since bought another for a diff horse.

Excellent product and well worth the price!!

Danielle! Thank you so much for this. Horses are crafty; we try to anticipate as much of their mischievous ways as we can. We're so glad we could offer y'all a solution before you even had to ask! Of course, if anything else arises, don't hesitate to reach out to Support. If we haven't heard or seen it before, we're always up for a new challenge.
